Overview

TMAC Resources is looking to hire an Environmental Engineer who will be responsible for coordinating with corporate and site managers and execute activities pertaining to the design, implementation and management of environmental aspects of projects including facility construction and modification projects that are covered by environmental permits and/or may have an effect on the environment, including, but not limited to; environmental site assessments, risk assessments, and remediation projects.

 

This role will report to the VP, Environmental Affairs. The position is located at the Toronto corporate office and will require occasional travel to the Hope Bay Project site in Nunavut, Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate with the leadership teams to execute activities pertaining to the design, implementation and management of environmental aspects of projects including facility construction and modification projects that are covered by environmental permits and/or may have an effect on the environment, including, but not limited to; environmental site assessments, risk assessments, and remediation projects.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections, ensuring environmental monitoring and supervision of remediation activities
  • Identifying multi-media sampling, data analysis and data management
  • Project and program reporting deliverables
  • Preparing remedial action plans
  • Conducting feasibility studies and compliance audits
  • Implement assigned engineering tasks independently
  • Perform engineering calculations and cost analysis 
  • Exercise independent judgment and evaluation
  • Maintain knowledge and familiarity with territorial and federal regulatory frameworks, diligent review and interpretation of environmental data
  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, community and environmental protection and take action to ensure that unsafe practices or non-compliant behaviours are avoided or do not occur.
  • Inform, involve and engage key internal and external stakeholders appropriately; develop and maintain positive relationships and represent TMAC positively in the community
  • Other such duties as may be assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering with environmental experience
  • Nunavut Engineering designation an asset
  • 3-7 years of related environmental experience
  • Knowledge of water quality management and data analysis and water management
  • Experience with geochemistry and water and load balances
  • Knowledge of waste water treatment processes and design
  • Knowledge of mine tailings management 
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience with environmental regulatory frameworks
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and writing skills
  • Hands-on, self-sufficient and demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude
  • Arctic experience is an asset
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office
