TMAC Resources is looking to hire a Heavy Equipment Operator who will be responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and responsible manner. Heavy equipment may include trucks, front-end loaders, dozers, graders, excavators, and other pieces of equipment. The Heavy Equipment Operator must also clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by policies and procedures.


This is a hands-on position that requires experience in best practice safety, mining and maintenance methodologies to manage the activities involved in the assessment, and operation of the equipment for the Hope Bay Site.


This role will report to the Site Service Supervisor. The position is located at the Hope Bay Project site in Nunavut, Canada and will require regular rotational travel to and from the site (3 weeks in/ 3 weeks out).


  • Ability to operate various pieces of heavy equipment, including loaders, excavators, dozers, graders, backhoes etc.
  • Conduct safety inspection at the beginning of each shift.
  • Performs routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles and/or equipment. Such as checking oil, water and tires.
  • Notify mobile maintenance of any physical or mechanical problems.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and production areas at all times.
  • Be familiar with and incorporate information derived from the manuals for the individual equipment being operated.
  • Discuss with supervisor the anticipated production, type of material being moved, number of trucks etc. before each shift.
  • Be aware of other equipment working on site and coordinate with co-workers to work with the other equipment.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping in assigned work area.
  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, community and environmental protection and take action to ensure that unsafe practices or non-compliant behaviours do not occur.
  • Inform, involve and engage the key internal and external stakeholders appropriately; develop and maintain positive relationships and represent TMAC positively in the community.
  • Other such duties as may be assigned.



  • 3-5 years of experience operating trucks, front-end loaders, dozers, graders, excavators and other pieces of equipment in a heavy industrial/mining environment.
  • Courses taken from a vocational school is considered an asset.
  • Able to assess the following machinery/equipment: Cat end dumps, grader, dozers, and other mine ancillary equipment.
  • Experience with Mine Rescue and/or Surface Fire-Fighting would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of record keeping system.
  • Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions which are applicable to the work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public, staff and others who are involved in the loading and unloading process.
  • 1st Aid and WHIMIS Safety Tickets an asset.
  • Strong organization skills, detailed and results orientated.
  • Hands-on, self-sufficient and demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Arctic experience is an asset.
