Overview

TMAC Resources is looking to hire a Human Resources/Social Responsibility Specialist who will perform a variety of human resources and social responsibility activities for the Hope Bay site and act as a resource for the recruitment, engagement and retention of our Inuit workforce. The individual will also assist in the administrative functions of the Cambridge Bay office as needed.

 

This position reports to the Director of External and Community Relations and is located at the Cambridge Bay office in Nunavut, Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Inuit employment process, screening applications, scheduling interviews, preparing and distributing interview materials and coordinate applicable pre-employment checks and update the recruitment database system (including travel, accommodations, appointments) etc. 
  • Ensure that all Northern hires complete their new hire orientation and that relevant departments receive the appropriate documents on a timely basis. 
  • Provide assistance to employees with the interpretation of company policies, procedures and applicable labour legislation.
  • Provide input and administrative support in the creation of relevant programs, policies, procedures, plans and labour contracts.
  • Deliver Cross Cultural Awareness or other training modules as required. 
  • Maintain and update Northern Worker Emergency Contact List and merge with master list as required
  • In collaboration with the Director of External and Community Relations, prepare and/or review various reports including weekly and monthly reports as well as presentations, in a timely manner.
  • In collaboration with the IIBA Coordinator, build positive working relationships with Inuit organizations and companies, industry associations and governments.
  • Assist with the development of training and educational opportunities.
  • Assist with the organization and coordination of community meetings, and liaise with community groups, companies and other organisations.
  • Assist in preparation and participate in career fairs and community tours.
  • Support the Environment Team (includes Permitting and Environmental Management Processes).
  • Participate in the documentation of stakeholder communications as necessary.
  • Participate in the financial administration of annual Social Responsibility budgets. 
  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, community and environmental protection and take action to ensure that unsafe practices or non-compliant behaviours do not occur.
  • In accordance with the Community Involvement Plan, Inform, involve and engage key internal and external stakeholders appropriately; develop and maintain positive relationships and represent TMAC positively in the community
  • Other such duties as may be assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree related to Business, Human Resources Management, Social Sciences or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of three years Human Resources Generalist experience is preferred.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent oral, written and active-listening skills.
  • Passion for Inuit employment and development and knowledge of the Kitikmeot.
  • Ability to establish credibility and trust within the community and with current/potential employee base.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Knowledge of human resources legislation, policies and procedures is an asset.
  • Demonstrate sound work ethics and be committed to safety.
  • Display maturity, be self-motivated, disciplined and understand the necessity for confidentiality in all business and personal matters.
  • Knowledge of Inuktun is considered an asset.
