TMAC Resources is looking to hire a Human Resources Specialist responsible for providing HR support at Hope Bay. This role will support the implementation of effective Human Resources services and systems, ensuring employees are on boarded and oriented in a timely manner, as well as act as a first point of contact for various HR matters.


This position will report to the General Manager with a functional reporting line to the Director, Human Resources. The position is located at the Hope Bay Project site in Nunavut, Canada and will require regular rotational travel to and from the site (2 weeks in/ 2 weeks out).


  • Act as a resource for both employees and supervisors in regards to all HR matters. 
  • Provide guidance and direction to employees and supervisors on the interpretation of relevant policies and procedures and ensure that practices are legislatively compliant.
  • Ensure that new employees are on boarded and oriented to the site in a timely manner. 
  • Provide assistance with the completion of payroll and benefit paperwork as needed. 
  • Collaborate and communicate regularly with the Human Resources and Social Responsibility teams located in the Toronto and Cambridge Bay offices to ensure flow of relevant information and adherence to relevant policies and existing agreements.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of a Return to Work Policy that addresses WSCC and all other leaves.
  • Assist in establishing and justifying personnel requirements, hiring priorities and hiring time lines in relation to the site’s budget.
  • Administer the employee discipline process.
  • Support recruiting activities as needed (i.e. scheduling, participating in interviews, creating draft job descriptions, helping with pre-employment checks as required). 
  • Work with supervisory personnel in the performance review process.
  • Assist with the completion of the newsletter.
  • Coordinate delivery and execution of HR related programs.
  • Participate in and support the Social Committee.
  • Support talent management initiatives. 
  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, community and environmental protection and take action to ensure that unsafe practices or non-compliant behaviours do not occur.
  • Inform, involve and engage key internal and external stakeholders appropriately; develop and maintain positive relationships and represent TMAC positively in the community
  • Other such duties as may be assigned.



  • Bachelor degree/diploma in human resources, or related field.
  • 4 years of human resources experience with minimum 2 years’ experience working at remote FIFO camps is preferred.
  • Experience working directly with an Inuit workforce.
  • Ability to interface effectively with peers and senior management.
  • Excellent client service and relationship building skills. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • An enthusiastic team player who works well under pressure. 
  • Hands-on, self-sufficient and demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office.
