TMAC Resources is looking to hire a Heavy Duty Mechanic who will be responsible for repairs, troubleshooting, adjustments, overhauls and maintaining mobile heavy-duty equipment. All work must be performed in accordance with health & safety, industry, production and legislative requirements.

This position will report to the Surface Maintenance Supervisor. The position is located at the Hope Bay Project site in Nunavut, Canada and will require regular rotational travel to and from the site (3 weeks in / 3 weeks out).


  • Repair, rebuild, overhaul and perform routine maintenance work on Mobile and Underground machinery and equipment.
  • Check excavators, dozers, loaders, cranes, graders, haul trucks, highway vehicles and other mining equipment, for proper performance and inspect the equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized testing equipment to determine extent of repairs required on various types of Mobile Equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and adjust equipment. Repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications with emphasis on Safe operation.
  • Perform repair work on medium and heavy duty single, double and tri axle trucks.
  • Respond to breakdowns to troubleshoot and complete any repairs or installations needed.
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices to position machinery and parts during the installation and repair of machinery.
  • Work with outside contractors and service providers as required.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork as required.
  • Report any real or potential safety/health hazard to the Supervisor.
  • Actively participate in orientation and training programs.
  • Conduct daily inspections of the work area.
  • Report all accidents, incidents or near misses to the Supervisor.
  • Observe all legislated H&S regulations (including OHSA & WSIB) as well as established workplace safety procedures.
  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, community and environmental protection and take action to ensure that unsafe practices or non-compliant behaviours do not occur.
  • Other such duties as may be assigned.



  • Inter-Provincial Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic or equivalent.
  • Understanding of Cat ET and SIS dealer software and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Experience with Caterpillar Computerized fuel management Systems.
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, assembly, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and procedural manuals.
  • Outstanding communication (oral/written) skills required.
  • Strong team building skills.
  • Willing to work overtime as required.
  • Hands-on, self-sufficient and demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Arctic experience is an asset.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office.
