TMAC Resources is looking to hire a Waste Management Operator to provide support and assistance to the surface maintenance department. The incumbent will be responsible for the waste management facilities, fuel transfer, pumping and general maintenance needs at Hope Bay Mine Site including but not limited to, surface infrastructure, processing plant, and camp.


This role will report to the Site Services Supervisor. The position is located at the Hope Bay Project site in Nunavut, Canada and will require regular rotational travel to and from the site (3 weeks in / 3 weeks out).


  • Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs to waste management incinerators.
  • Troubleshoot operating problems and performs necessary corrective actions.
  • Assist with fueling of equipment on site and associated pumping systems.
  • Monitor large storage tanks and assist with maintenance of fuel and propane fired air heating units.
  • Maintain a preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Conduct regular inspections of all areas for defects and opportunities for continual improvement.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Practice and promote TMAC environmental, health, and safety and operational policies and procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development as needed.
  • Promote teamwork and cross-cultural relations and understanding.
  • Label all waste for storage or transport in accordance with WHMIS.
  • Maintain a log of daily activities and system logs as required.
  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, community and environmental protection and take action to ensure that unsafe practices or non-compliant behaviours do not occur.
  • Inform, involve and engage the key internal and external stakeholders appropriately; develop and maintain positive relationships and represent TMAC positively in the community.
  • Other such duties as may be assigned.


  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in waste management activities required.
  • Experience with diesel fired incinerators and waste management systems.
  • Class 3 driver’s license with air endorsement an asset.
  • Hands-on, self-sufficient and demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Experience working in a remote mining or Industrial environment, arctic experience preferred.
  • First Aid Certificate and fall arrest training an asset.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office.
