Overview

TMAC Resources is looking to hire an Apprentice Welder / Fabricator. Under the supervision of an experienced Journeyperson Welder, you will have the opportunity to grow your experience in the mining industry operating manual and semi-automatic welding equipment. As an Apprentice Welder, you will gain experience working in a fast paced, challenging, and professional work environment.

 

This position will report to the Maintenance Supervisor. The position is located at the Hope Bay Project site in Nunavut, Canada and will require regular rotational travel to and from the site (3 weeks in / 3 weeks out).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with fabricating, repairs, and reconditioning of mobile and stationary equipment per trade code and industry design specifications and requirements.
  • Responsible for a variety of skilled functions including welding, fabrication, and troubleshooting.
  • Read diagrams, schematic drawings, and service manuals to determine work procedures.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding: gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and other trade related processes and tools.
  • Keep work areas and equipment clean and free of safety hazards on a continuous basis and conduct routine inspections of the workplace.
  • Contribute and participate in daily safety audits and regular meetings.
  • Work together to promote a Positive Safety Culture.
    • Complete a JHA prior to performing tasks.
    • Identify safety concerns and share amongst your peers
    • Adhere to all safety standards and policies.
    • Foster a positive attitude towards managing change.
  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, community and environmental protection and take action to ensure that unsafe practices or non-compliant behaviours do not occur.
  • Inform, involve and engage key internal and external stakeholders appropriately; develop and maintain positive relationships and represent TMAC positively in the community.
  • Other such duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of welding experience in the mining industry preferred. 
  • Must have High School Diploma or an equivalent
  • Must be able to work in extreme work environments i.e. work outdoors in the cold.
  • Ability to learn and understand technical procedures and information quickly.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Hands-on, self-sufficient and demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Arctic experience is an asset.
