TMAC Resources is looking to hire a Health and Safety Coordinator to be responsible for implementation of site wide health and safety programs, evaluation of safe work procedures and ensuring compliance with company H&S policies and regulations. This role will be instrumental in development of a safe work culture and achieving zero harm initiatives.


This position will report to the Health and Safety Manager. The position is located at the Hope Bay Project site in Nunavut, Canada and will require regular rotational travel to and from the site (2 weeks in/ 2 weeks out).




  • Ensures through workplace audits and consultation site work is carried out safely using appropriate protective equipment, procedures and tools for the conditions. 
  • Assists departments in developing safe work procedures and in the use of job hazard analysis for new or non-routine tasks. 
  • Monitors workplace exposures to health and occupational hazards through industrial hygiene monitoring and tracks results.
  • Provides oversight to the use of permit systems (hot work, confined space, working at heights).
  • Assist, coordinate and deliver safety training for new employees and annual refresher training.
  • Provide input to safety training schedules for the site employees.
  • Assist with Mine Rescue and Surface Emergency Response training activities.
  • Perform workplace inspections to coach/mentor employees to achieve compliance to standards.
  • Coordinate and/or assist in incident investigation and record keeping.
  • Assist with on-site alcohol and drug screening.
  • Coordinate contractor health and safety compliance and regulatory needs with Contractors Health and Safety leads.
  • Lead site department safety meetings providing employees with updates of company health and safety activities.
  • Maintain good records of audits, reports including audit recommendations
  • Promote Team atmosphere with excellent communications between all personnel.
  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, community and environmental protection and take action to ensure that unsafe practices or non-compliant behaviours do not occur.
  • Inform, involve and engage key internal and external stakeholders appropriately; develop and maintain positive relationships and represent TMAC positively in the community.
  • Other such duties as may be assigned.


  • 5 years of experience in health and safety at an operating mine and processing facility.
  • Certification in Safety Management or Technical specialty; or a technical degree with significant equivalent experience.
  • Proven ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Hands-on, self-sufficient and demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Arctic experience is an asset.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with SAP.
