TMAC is looking to hire an Assistant General Manager (AGM) at our Hope Bay Mine site. The AGM will assist the General Manager and work closely with department managers to ensure production goals are achieved efficiently and cost effectively, while keeping safe operating procedures, applicable laws, and sound business practices in all decision making. The AGM is accountable for maintaining professional relations with all stakeholders including Inuit organizations, governmental regulatory agencies and local communities.


This position will be located at the Hope Bay site in Nunavut. The selected incumbent will cross-shift the General Manager on a 2 week on – 2 week off rotation.


  • Manages all site activities including mining, processing and surface operations to enable them to meet production and cost objectives in a safe, efficient manner. 
  • Establish and maintain effective communications with all employees and lead an effective management team. 
  • Provides input into the preparation of capital and operating plans and budgets, project management, 
  • Monitor budget and ensure established operation margins are met. 
  • Recommend and oversee the implementation of corrective actions to ensure production objectives and quality solutions are met. 
  • Ensure all departments follow operating procedures and comply with all regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure the required manpower and equipment is in place to achieve planned production, while meeting planned costs, and ensuring that all production goals are met.
  • Utilize cost reporting systems to ensure reliable, accurate and timely delivery of reports, budgets and forecasts.
  • Coach and motivate employees to ensure focused, high initiative teams with accountability for their actions and delivery of overall results including safety, production, budgets, company policies and behaviour that is aligned to the company’s values. 
  • Work with and embrace the varied cultures of Nunavut.
  • Ensure TMAC's values are implemented and that all site policies and procedures are consistent with and reflect TMAC's core values, policies, standards and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental, regulatory, permitting and legal requirements.
  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, community and environmental protection and take action to ensure that unsafe practices or non-compliant behaviours do not occur.
  • Inform, involve and engage key internal and external stakeholders appropriately; develop and maintain positive relationships and represent TMAC positively in the community.
  • Other such duties as may be assigned.


  • BSc degree or technical diploma in Mining, Metallurgy, Geology or related discipline or equivalent experience. 
  • Experience in the mining industry, including safety, engineering, operating process plant operations, and continuous improvement and with a minimum of 7 years in a leadership role. 
  • Process plant operation and metallurgy experience is an asset.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of implementing zero harm culture.
  • Strong business acumen including analysis, budgeting, planning, execution and financial reporting.
  • Experience in project plans, communicate changes, complete projects on time and within budget.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high performance teams, inspire and motivate others and positively influence actions.
  • Ability to deal with the public/community, regulatory agencies, and government officials in a professional manner.
  • Hands-on, self-sufficient and demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems and provide creative solutions in a timely manner.
  • Experience working with an aboriginal workforce.
  • Skilled, collaborative communicator with excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate level Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
